Knowing what to take with you on your backpacking adventures and what to leave behind is an essential skill when planning your very own gap year. This section is here to help you sort out the good from the bad.
This is a selection of the gear and equipment I have personally used on all my travels over the last fifteen years of travelling around the world, or new products that I will be travelling with on current trips. Some of the items I have found absolutely indispensable and have carried them with me ever since I first used them, others may not be worth the time or money. Either way you will get an honest, road tested review that you can count on to give you all the information you need to make a fully informed decision on what kit is right for you.
It has been broken up into three different sections to make it easier for you. Backpacks, which obvously takes care of the quintessential piece of kit all backpackers need, Travel Accessories which contains reviews of all the miscellaneous items and bits of kit that make your travels easier, and travel clothing. It is literally impossible to be able to cover everything in these pages, as there are countless products out there and everyone’s individual packing lists will be different and unique. For my packing list recommendations click here, and for a more detailed review of each item, whatever it is you think you need for your own gap year, come here to find out whether it is really essential or not first.
Many reviews in this section are of products and equipment paid for and used solely by the author as a result of personal travelling which it is felt would be of benefit to readers of the site, and the views and opinions expressed are honest and factual without any bias.
No incentives are ever accepted in return for positive coverage, and in the instances where assistance or products have been given by travel industry professionals and services, full editorial integrity is maintained and all reviews will remain honest and forthright. If a service has been provided in the name of research, then a full disclosure of that fact will appear at the bottom of the individual review.
