Announcing The New Gap Year Safety Consultation Service.

Announcing The New Gap Year Safety Consultation.

I am seriously proud to announce a whole new service for Bemused Backpacker, the Gap Year Safety Consultation!

This is a unique one to one service for anyone who is dreaming of travelling the world or planning their backpacking adventures, but are worried or nervous about staying safe on the road. It is here to reassure you that you can travel the world safely with the right preparation and the right knowledge, and give you the information and the tools you need to be able to enjoy your travels and return home safely.

Providing reassurance.

Travelling the world can be safe, it really is true. Despite what you may hear, the absolute majority of travellers come back from their gap year or backpacking trip without any major problems whatsoever. Going on a gap year or a backpacking adventure can be one of the best experiences of your life and it is important to remember that with the right preparation , knowledge and reasonable precautions for your own safety and security you can come back from it safe and sound.

Let me show you how.

The Gap Year Safety Consultation is not here to add to the fear or paranoia that is already out there. It has been set up so that I can reassure you – and your parents or loved ones – that anyone can travel the world independently and safely.

Reducing the risk.

Yes there are dangers out there, there are risks and hassles and scams of every type and description, there is no point in trying to sugar coat that fact. There is always risk in anything you do. But the right knowledge, the right information and the right precautions can reduce that risk to acceptable levels. Round the world travel is no different.

The key is knowing how.

Knowing how to spot potentially difficult and dangerous situations, knowing how to avoid trouble and knowing what to do and how to act if something does go wrong makes all the difference and make sure you come home safely and still make the most of your gap year.

I can give you that.

This isn’t just for travellers.

I completely understand that whilst it can be nerve racking for any first time traveller to set off on their gap years or backpacking trips, it can be just as scary for their parents or loved ones too. That’s only natural, you love them and are concerned for their safety, there is nothing wrong with that.

That is why this consultation is so essential. If you want to make sure your loved ones are as prepared as they can be before their gap year and are equipped with the tools and knowledge they need to keep themselves safe, then this is what this course is designed for and is a sound investment.

If you still want some reassurance yourself, or need information on how to stay in contact, how to help your children in an emergency or simply need to chat with someone who has been there, then I am here for you too.

Why work with me?

I have been backpacking independently around the world for over ten years now and I have learned first hand how to reduce risk, avoid dangerous situations and stay safe on the road. I have extensive life long experience in numerous martial arts and taught self defence to military and security professionals as well as civilians for long before that. My first degree was in criminology and I have military training, so I not only understand the potential risks from an academic point of view but a practical one too. So it is safe to say that I know a thing or two about the potential dangers that are genuinely out there, but more importantly I know how to avoid them and reduce any risk so I can enjoy my travels in safety and how and when it is necessary to act to keep myself safe.

And I want to pass that knowledge onto you.

Basically if you – or any of your loved ones – are nervous or worried about any aspect of your planned gap year, then I can help you.

My personal, one to one advice goes far beyond the numerous articles and safety advice I have written on Bemused Backpacker before, it even goes beyond the advanced advice I have put into the pages of my two travel safety books.

Gap Year Safety Books

By signing up for a consultation you will be getting personal advice from a self defence expert who has been there and done that. You will be getting personal advice from someone who has done exactly what you are planning to do, who has made the mistakes, been in the tight spots and come out on the other side safe and sound.

I want to give you the knowledge and the tools you need to keep yourself safe. I want you to be able to be prepared, but still able to enjoy your gap year travels in complete confidence in your ability to stay safe, and I want to give both you and your loved ones the peace of mind that you will return home safely after having the time of your life.

This is a great idea Mike! Too many people want to travel and don’t because of some reason or another and a lot of it is to do with fear. There are dangers right outside our front doors, but I guess being abroad in a place you don’t know makes it slightly more worrying, so this is a great way to help people take the leap!

My nan could probably do with talking to you actually as she worries way too much every time I go away (you already know the story about the rape whistle she gave me for one of my trips haha!!).

A great way to help wannabe travellers get out there without any worries 🙂

I wish this had been available before I started my gap year! I bought both of your books when they came out and they both had amazing advice. If you had this set up then I definitely would have used it too. If the advice in this consultation is anything like in your books then I urge everyone who is going traveling to use it! Now!

This is a great idea for a service Mike well done! Most people are unaware of what to do or how to prepare and a lot of them are scared lately with the recent news of British tourists being killed. It’s so hard to convince them the world can be a safe place. I hope you’re still in “business” in about five years (or less), because I’m pretty sure my (now 15) son will go on a gap year trip and I’ll be the worrying mother (can’t help it) 🙂
